Lymphedema Therapy - Southeastern Medical Oncology Center
is now providing lymphedema therapy through a certified Lymphedema Therapist,
trained by Klose & Norton Training and Consulting. Lymphedema is a swelling
of a body part, most often in the extremities, and affects approximately 1%
of the U.S. population. Southeastern Medical Oncology Center utilizes the 5
step Complete Decongestive Physiotherapy (CDP) technique to treat lymphedema.
This includes manual lymph drainage, bandaging, skin/nail care, exercise, and
education. Patients are usually treated 2 - 4 weeks on a daily basis depending
on the severity of the lymphedema. Call us at 1.800.849.0203 to learn more and
to schedule an appointment with our Lymphedema Therapist.
Research - Southeastern Medical Oncology Center is an active
participant in several nationally and internationally recognized cancer investigational
treatment consortiums funded by the National Cancer Institute. These include:
- National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project
- Southwest Oncology Group
- Radiation Therapy Oncology Group

- University of Rochester Cancer Center
Southeastern Medical Oncology Center is also active in pharmaceutical company
trials for the development of emerging cancer therapies.
Patient and Family Counseling Services - SMOC offers counseling
services with a clinical social worker to help patients and families cope with
concerns and anxieties that may arise during illness and treatment. Being diagnosed
with a serious illness has an impact on the entire family structure. Every family
is different, and a wide range of emotional issues can surface during times
of stress. In order to provide comprehensive care, mental health services are
offered to patients as well as their family members. Individual, couples, and
group/family therapy sessions focus on patient education, psychosocial support
and therapeutic intervention. Issues addressed include depression, anxiety,
stress and anger management, adjustment, caregiving, empowerment, grief and
loss.
